Want to eat good food and drink good beer, but you care about your health? Cheers to you!

YOU ARE MORE THAN JUST A BODY.

NOURISH YOUR WHOLE SELF - MIND, BODY, & SOUL.

CONFIDENTLY MAKE FOOD & DRINK CHOICES THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH YOUR GOALS.

The only online course of its kind is on tap now, created exclusively for craft beer enthusiasts like you by a couple of craft beer-drinking Registered Dietitians.

No, we're not that kind of dietitians. We aren't here to take away your pizza or your burgers or your tacos or your ice cream. And we definitely aren't here to tell you to "just switch to light beer".

We'll break down exactly what you need to know as a health-conscious craft beer drinker so that you can consider the risks vs. benefits and make informed decisions for yourself. You are the expert in you.

You're not 21 anymore. It's time to STOP saving all your drinks for the weekend, going overboard, feeling hungover the next day (or two - let's be honest), and not even fully remembering or appreciating all the beers you were so determined to try in the first place.

START transforming the way you think about eating, drinking, and moving so you can savor every bite & sip guilt-free, knowing that you have crafted the best balance for you.

👉 12-week self-guided online course with video lessons
👉 learn from Registered Dietitians who drink craft beer

If you are tired of...

  • restrictive diets that don't work
  • tracking calories & macros without results
  • working against your mind & body
  • always feeling tired, hungry, or hungover
  • choosing between your social life and your goals

POUR ALL THAT DOWN THE DRAIN.

Uncap the power of mindful & intuitive eating, drinking, and movement practices.
When you use our approach to craft the best balance for you...

  • you'll savor every bite & sip guilt-free
  • you'll count craft beer friends, not calories
  • you'll track brewery visits, not macros
  • you'll start working with your mind, body, & soul
  • you'll feel a difference in your overall well-being

Nourishing your whole self is possible

Are you ready TO BREW THE BEST YOU?

There is so much nutrition information out there, it is overwhelming. We get it.

Craft My Balance cuts through the noise by telling you what matters most when it comes to your nutrition, health, and overall well-being.

Yeah, you could figure out a lot of this for yourself.

But it might take awhile. And wouldn't it be more fun with a community of health-conscious craft beer drinkers cheers-ing you on? Not to mention less stressful with a team of Registered Dietitians answering your questions along the way.

Maybe you're worried about feeling judged or lectured about your alcohol intake.

We aren't here to tell you how much to drink. That decision is ultimately up to you and your healthcare providers. We are here to help you understand the risks vs. benefits so that you can make more informed decisions about your alcohol intake.

We are uniquely qualified

As Registered Dietitians (RDs), we are board-certified food and nutrition experts. We earned M.S. degrees in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech. Lori completed her dietetic internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Tim completed his dietetic internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Please be aware that: 1) in many states the term "nutritionist" is not regulated, meaning that anyone can call themselves one, and 2) a recent study found that medical students receive 11 hours of nutrition training on average in medical school. For comparison, RDs are required to complete the required dietetics coursework, obtain 1200+ supervised practice hours, pass a national certifying exam, complete continuing education requirements, and follow the profession's code of ethics.

We'll talk about all the things no one is talking about when it comes to alcohol & health

This is the course we wish we had in college, and it covers everything we think you need to know if you drink alcohol and care about your health. Mixed messages about alcohol & health are everywhere, like - moderation is maybe “good for you” when it comes to certain things, but then it’s not for others - and what the Helles does "moderation" even mean? Sure, there’s a health warning printed on every beer can, but it’s in this micro font size and no one is really talking about it, so how worried do you really need to be?!

We break it all down, using our research experience to help you understand what we know and what we don't know when it comes to alcohol and health, and then we take a look at the bigger picture, beyond physical health and beyond individual health to help you decide what it all means for you.

We have an all foods & drinks fit philosophy and are weight inclusive, Health At Every Size® aligned providers

All food cultures, dietary preferences, and bodies are welcome and valued here. We focus on adding not restricting, and how nutrition and movement can enhance your life, not how they can change your appearance.

Access anytime, anywhere

Log on to our Intuitive Drinking Taproom whenever it fits your schedule, on your computer or mobile device via the app. Work through the online course at your own pace, take breaks as needed (life happens!), and come back to it anytime with our lifetime access policy.

here's what people are saying

Nutrition On Tap isn't just about what's on our plates or in our glasses; it's about nurturing our whole selves - mind, body, and soul - through mindful and intuitive choices. In a world inundated with diet culture, I'm grateful for the refreshing approach of Registered Dietitians like Lori FitzPatrick, who is championing Health At Every Size and not focused on restricting and harmful diets. Her inclusive philosophy honors diverse preferences and cultural diets, fostering connection rather than exclusion. I appreciate all Lori's doing to help people build a balanced relationship with food and beer.

Craft My Balance is clever and well thought out. The way Lori presents and builds a foundation of information is simple enough to be user-friendly to all while keeping it fun and engaging. I love the approach of material, format, and knowledge that everyone is different physically and mentally. Lori & Tim do an amazing job visually to allow a hands-on aspect to a virtual class. I love it! And the beer puns are on point!

HAVE questions before you get started?

We've got answers! The can art may look good on the outside, but you want to know it's going to be just as good on the inside once you crack it open. We respect that.

Is there an app I can use?
Yes! You’ll be instructed to download the app when you sign up. App users will have the best experience, because the course content and downloads can be accessed from anywhere - the grocery store, your kitchen, a brewery...

Will I be able to ask questions?
Of course! Ask questions within the course or in the Craft My Balance community. Just remember that we cannot provide medical nutrition therapy as part of this course, so please do not ask questions that require consideration of your unique medical needs.

How long do I have access to the course?
Forever! Once you have paid in full, you will have access to the Craft My Balance course material and any future versions of the course for as long as it exists. For now, you will also have ongoing access to the course community, but that is subject to change as our community grows and the offerings within the community expand. For example, if we decide to add live group calls, live cooking demonstrations, and other valuable resources in the community group, we may transition to a monthly/annual membership model after course completion. You would be informed of any changes in advance via email.

What will I need to be able to access all of the course content?
You will need a computer or a mobile device. If you choose to print any of the course materials, you would also need access to a printer, but our course workbook, and blank grocery list and meal guide templates are available as editable PDFs.

What will I need to be able to prepare the meals in the Meal Prep Pilot Project?
You will need access to a grocery store or grocery delivery service and a kitchen with basic appliances and cooking equipment. You do not need access to an air-fryer, Instapot, rice cooker, etc. but if you'd like to use those appliances instead of the cooking methods described, you certainly can. If you choose to try any of the suggested beer pairings, you should be able to find most of the beer styles included at a local brewery, bottleshop, beer distributor, or grocery store depending on your location.

What is your return policy?
Due to the nature of this digital product, we do not offer refunds. Please review our FAQs and contact us at nutritionontap@craftmybalance.com with any additional questions prior to purchasing to be sure this course is right for you. We also invite you to provide feedback so that we can continue to improve this course, which will ultimately benefit you given our lifetime access policy.

How much time should I expect the course to take?
The course is designed to take a minimum of 12 weeks, or 2 weeks per module for 6 modules. Each module consists of about 45 minutes of video lessons, and you should plan some extra time to put your learning into practice and to plan and start prepping some meal components for the week.

Did you use AI (artificial intelligence) to make this course?
None of the course content was created using AI. We occasionally consult AI to help us brainstorm creative language to use on our website or in our emails, or to summarize course content that has already been created.

What is an equitable pricing (sliding scale) model?
This is an economic justice tool based on the Worts + Cunning Apothecary sliding scale by Alexis J. Cunningfolk linked here.

Do you offer an affiliate program for content creators who want to share their Craft My Balance experience with their social media followers?
Yes! If you have an engaged following of folks who are of legal drinking age, you may be eligible to become an affiliate after purchasing and completing the course. Contact us at nutritionontap@craftmybalance.com for details.

Does the Meal Prep Pilot Project accommodate people with certain dietary restrictions/preferences?
12/12 breakfasts, 11/12 snacks, 10/12 Happy Hour snacks, 6/12 lunches, 10/48 dinners, and 12/12 desserts are vegetarian. "Brew Your Own" suggestions are available to make the rest of the dinners plant-based. If you have any food allergies/intolerances or medical conditions with dietary restrictions, consult your healthcare provider to determine if/how the recipes can be adapted to meet your unique needs. If you have questions about how to modify the recipes/meal ideas to suit your personal preferences or the ingredients you have on hand (beyond the suggestions already provided) just ask us/the Craft My Balance community!

Does the Meal Prep Pilot Project list nutrition information for each recipe?
Craft My Balance is NOT a diet or weight loss plan. The Meal Prep Pilot Project intentionally does not include nutrition information (calories, macros, etc.), partly because it would be highly inaccurate without requiring you to buy certain brands of ingredients, but mostly because that external information can distract you from listening to your internal cues. If you are looking for help restricting your dietary intake specifically to change the weight/shape of your body, this is not the course for you. If you are open to a mindful & intuitive approach to eating, drinking, and moving that may or may not change how your body looks but is absolutely intended to support your actual physical and mental health and how you feel in your body, you are in the right place.

What if I am re-evaluating my alcohol intake but I prefer alcoholic beverages other than craft beer, such as cider, wine, hard seltzer, or spirits?
Craft My Balance is designed with craft beer drinkers in mind, but many of the key takeaways from the course and most of the discussion around alcohol and health applies to all types of alcohol, not just craft beer.

What can I expect once I sign up?

You will be invited to our Member Area, The Intuitive Drinking Taproom, where you can login to access the Craft My Balance Course.

Start watching the video lessons from your computer or mobile device whenever you're ready. You’ll get the best results if you work through the modules in order, but you’ll get access to all the lessons and resources at once. We’ll be hanging out behind the virtual bar ready to cheers (*clinks glass*) you on!

  YOU CAN EITHER

Keep looking for that magical sparkly beer quick fix when it comes to your nutrition and overall well-being (hint hint, it doesn't exist)

 OR
Accept that nutrition is more like a lager and commit to getting the basics down, being patient, and appreciating the nuances.
Hi, we're Lori & Tim
We haven't always had the best relationships with food & beer.

Growing up as young athletes, we were surrounded by diet culture - although we didn't know it at the time. We earned our undergraduate degrees in exercise science before realizing that what we had really been missing from our sports performance was adequate fuel. We met each other on a group project while getting our graduate degrees in nutrition.

A lot of our formal nutrition education taught us how to "health-ify" foods (chocolate chip cookies made with avocadoes instead of butter, anyone?), prioritize physical health over a more holistic approach, and centered one's individual responsiblity to be "healthy" as if it should look the same for everyone. Meanwhile, our informal education taught us how to burn calories to drink calories, work hard to play hard, and centered alcohol as the default way to socialize, de-stress, and have fun.

Since then, we have taken a step back to consider the bigger picture of overall health & well-being, acknowledged how "health" might look different for everyone (or even for the same person at different stages in life), and happily settled into a middle ground where we can eat, drink, and move in ways that support our whole selves - mind, body, & soul. In other words, we've crafted the best balance for us, right now, as individuals, a married couple, and new parents.

We're not new to craft beer
As owners & founders of Nutrition On Tap, LLC we have:

  • created a series of healthy meal & beer pairings for the Work For Your Beer blog
  • been guests on an episode of the Beer Feelings Podcast
  • presented on beer, nutrition, & health to fellow Registered Dietitians during an annual state conference workshop held at Three Notch’d RVA
  • collaborated with Benchtop Brewing RVA to host a nutrition & mindful drinking event
  • been quoted as mindful drinking experts inVerywell Fit andWell + Good

CRAFT MY BALANCE is for you if...

  • you are open to a mindful & intuitive approach to eating, drinking, and moving that may or may not change how your body looks but will support your physical and mental health
  • you want to understand the risks vs. benefits of drinking craft beer, you're thinking about cutting back on your alcohol intake, or you want to add healthy behaviors to mitigate the risks of your current alcohol intake
  • you feel like folks in the beer community either think if you’re drinking beer you shouldn’t care about your health, or if you care about your health at all you shouldn’t be drinking beer - but you feel like you’re somewhere in between

CRAFT MY BALANCE is NOT...

  • a diet or weight loss program
  • for individuals under drinking age (must be 21+ in the United States)
  • for individuals with alcohol use disorder or in recovery for alcohol use disorder
  • for anyone who does not agree to abide by our community guidelines - we are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and harassment-free space where everyone, regardless of gender, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion, are valued and treated with integrity and respect
Craft My Balance may or may not be appropriate for individuals with medical conditions. We recommend working with your healthcare providers to determine if this course may be a good fit for you. Although we are Registered Dietitians and therefore healthcare providers ourselves, we are not your healthcare providers as outlined in our Disclaimer.

Craft My Balance is engaging and informative. Lori and Tim are excellent dietitians and provide a wealth of information for those looking to learn more about balancing their meals and craft beer. Lori and Tim are nutrition experts and scientists. They utilize current and relevant nutrition research and their expertise, to create content that is relevant and useful for everyone, especially those who love craft beer! Craft My Balance not only shares current research and nutrition science; but also creates a method for how to implement balance into your nutrition choices with ease. The program is broken down in 'bottles' to go through everything you need to know about food and alcohol to confidently make choices that meet your needs and preferences.

But not really - we'll be here whenever you're ready to take this step.

We got into nutrition to help people, but unfortunately our healthcare system is more reactive than proactive. We often find ourselves wishing we could spend more time preventing chronic health conditions than treating them

That's what Craft My Balance is all about. Adding nutrition, movement, and social connection in a way that is practical, approachable, fun, and helps you live your best life - not in a way that makes your diet or your exercise routine become your whole entire life. Think quality AND quantity, and progress NOT perfection.

If you’re ready to nourish your whole awesome self while making food & drink choices that are aligned with your goals, join us exactly as you are and grab a seat at the bar (but like, a comfy one) inside our (virtual) Intuitive Drinking Taproom. Start crafting the best balance for you today.

P.S. IF YOU'RE NOT QUITE READY FOR ALL THIS:
  • 38 lessons organized into 6 modules with a combination of on-camera videos and voiceover slides
  • lifetime access to 4+ hours of content, sourced from 100+ scientific references and taught in a way that's easy to understand
  • 30+ resources to download including a Craft My Balance workbook that you can print or download/edit from your computer or mobile device
  • ongoing access to dietitian support and our private community (at least for now!)
